Golden Horse Rebranded as Southern Sun Hotel

The Golden Horse Hotel in Scottsville, Pietermaritzburg, will be upgraded and rebranded following its acquisition by South African hotel and entertainment group, Tsogo Sun, in May.

Tsogo Sun has been managing the hotel since May 1 and plans to complete its rebranding by September this year. The hotel will be rebranded as a luxury Southern Sun hotel and will be marketed under the Sun Burst brand, which belongs to the group.

Golden Horse to be Upgraded to Luxury Hotel

The Tsogo Sun acquisition brought the hotel into the group as part of the Golden Horse casino complex. According to Maureen Krivits, complex General Manager and Director of Operations, the complex will offer hospitality, entertainment and leisure in a single complex.

As part of the Tsogo Sun group that includes fourteen casinos and more than 90 hotels throughout Africa, guests at the newly rebranded Golden Horse Hotel will have access to the group's Frequent Guest Program, a major benefit of the group that allows guests to earn and spend Sun Rands.

Refurbishments to the complex have already begun and include the completion of a coffee shop and casual restaurant, a new guest business complex, minor changes to the conference center, renovations to the rooms, the installation of free WiFi and a new entrance. The rooms will each be supplied with a mini bar fridge, complimentary tea and coffee making facilities, a 26 channel TV line-up and a safe.

"We are pleased to incorporate the Golden Horse into our complex," read a statement from Tsogo Sun. "It means that we are able to extend our already growing array of options by offering our guests high quality conferencing facilities and accommodation with the promise of Southern Sun's premium standard of service, value for money and range of customer benefits."

The hotel currently features 96 regular rooms, two rooms for people with disabilities, a presidential suite and three other suites, as well as a conference facility that holds up to 300 people and an outdoor swimming pool.

Arisha Stanley Appointed to Oversee Rebranding

Arisha Stanley was appointed in May to oversee the upgrade and rebranding of the Golden Horse Hotel. She was appointed as the general manager after leading the acquisition of the hotel.

"I am excited about leading the Golden Horse Hotel into a new era and to bringing it up to Southern Sun's high standards of service and accommodation," Stanley said at the time of her appointment.
