Playtech Blackjack Surrender Review

One of our favorite online blackjack games is blackjack surrender by Playtech because it offers a subtle, yet entertaining twist to the traditional game of blackjack. The subtle twist that we’re referring to is the fact that you can surrender your hand, which essentially means that you forfeit your hand in exchange for having half of your bet returned. Other than this slight difference, blackjack surrender by Playtech is just like any other blackjack game.

Game Objective

Like most blackjack games, the objective when playing blackjack surrender by Playtech is to get closer to 21 than the dealer without going over 21.

How to Play Blackjack Surrender by Playtech

Playtech Blackjack Surrender follows the same rules as any other blackjack game, with the only difference being that you are able to surrender your hand. So as long as you’re familiar with basic blackjack rules and strategy, you shouldn’t have any trouble adapting to this variation of the game.

As soon as you’ve placed your bet(s), you will receive two cards face up and the dealer will also receive two cards; one of which is face up and one of which is face down. Before play continues, there will be a brief pause to determine if there are any blackjacks. If you have a blackjack, you will receive 3:2 on your bet as long as the dealer doesn’t have a blackjack. If the dealer has a blackjack, you will push your hand, unless of course you purchased insurance. If no blackjacks are present, the game will continue with the player being first to act.

When it’s your turn to act, you have one of six options; you can stand, you can hit, you can double down, you can split, you can surrender, or you can purchase insurance. We’ll assume that you’re familiar with these terms so we won’t describe them in detail, but Playtech Blackjack Surrender includes a help file that you can reference in the event that you’re not familiar with any of these terms. After you’ve played your hand, it’s the dealer’s turn to act and they will do so according to the rules below.

Dealer’s Actions

  • The Dealer must hit on any total of 16 or less.
  • The Dealer must stand on any total of 17 or more.

How do I win?

You win if:

You are dealt a blackjack.

  • The value of your hand is closer to 21 than the Dealer’s hand without exceeding 21 points.
  • The Dealer’s hand exceeds 21 points and the total of your hand is 21 points or less.
  • You elected to surrender, in which case half of your bet is returned.
  • You purchased insurance and the Dealer has a blackjack.

Game Rules

  • Cards are dealt from six standard 52-card decks.
  • Cards are re-shuffled after each hand.
  • A blackjack is an automatic win unless of course the dealer also has a blackjack, in which case it is a push (unless you purchased insurance).

Tips

The biggest mistake that players make when playing blackjack surrender is that they use the same strategy that they use for classic blackjack. Because the games have a few differences, classic blackjack strategy isn’t the perfect strategy to implement, so you will need to adapt your strategy accordingly whenever you are playing blackjack surrender by Playtech.
